Lace

Description

An investigation into the notions of identity, masculinity, and femininity. The process of the making of the object, from 3D modeling to plasma cutting to the final product is made transparent through the layering of audio, video, the final product, and its shadow. The intricacies of a delicate lace pattern embedded in cold steel combined with the jarring sounds of the plasma cutter and hot sparks flying confuse and conflate notions of femininity and masculinity. As each layer is added, the 2D object is transformed to a 3D object just as the layers of our identities are formed through experience, culture, society, and family.
